Event details

Friends of York Walls

Fishergate Postern Tower is not often open to the public.  It was built in 1505 and retains many original features and character.

The Friends of York Walls have teamed up with York Museums Trust to open the Tower both weekends of the Festival and display some key Anglian-period artefacts from the local area.

Curators from the Yorkshire Museum will be on the ground floor to show visitors a unique Anglian ring from Fishergate.

Climbing the spiral staircase, volunteer guides from the Friends of York Walls will show visitors where the Watchman’s family lived, with its large fireplace, garderobe and secret cupboard.  The battlements on the top floor give 360 degree views, sheltered by the timber roof.
