Step Into History: Herbert House tours
Event details
Herbert House is a unique collection of post-medieval timber-framed buildings dating from the mid-16th century. Originally built as a mercantile house, the property was used both commercially and as a residence. Since the 18th century, there has been a mix of commercial uses with shops on the ground floor. In the early 20th century, the upper floors were converted to offices. After a very long let the building now needs significant repair and restoration.
Join the York Conservation Trust team for a lunchtime tour of Herbert House and the chance to see areas previously inaccessible to the public. Learn about the history of the building and hear York Conservation Trust’s ideas for an impending renovation project, which includes exciting plans for Lady Peckett’s Yard, one of York’s most picturesque snickleways.
Please note: There is no wheelchair access or WC provision and care is needed as floors are uneven.
