Event details

Over the last year, the Company of Merchant Adventurers of York and the Borthwick Institute for Archives have formed a long-term partnership project to secure the future of the Company archives.

Join us at the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall to hear about the project, and some of the many fascinating stories that can be found in the archive collection. You can also have your say on where the research work should be taken next.

The Company of Merchant Adventurers of the City of York Archive

The archive is a treasure trove of information on the life of a medieval guild and its place in York's history. Including medieval charters and account rolls from the 14th century, title deeds from the late 12th century and 16th century trade papers, the historical archive holds a wealth of material to explore the business, religious, social, cultural and architectural history of York.
