The Syzygy astronomy podcast goes live for York Festival of Ideas with a special edition highlighting 'The Power Of … Seeing It For Yourself!'

In 2024 York was treated to a spectacle like no other - the northern lights, blazing away across unusually clear skies. Find out more about amazing aurora light shows, stunning solar eclipses, and all kinds of cosmic wonders that we can see with our own eyes (sometimes with a little help …).

Join York astronomer Emily Brunsden and science nerd Chris Stewart as they explore our wild and wonderful universe, sharing tales of astounding astronomy.

About the speakers

Dr Emily Brunsden is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology at the University of York, specialising in Astrophysics. She is the Director of Astrocampus - a teaching and outreach observatory. Her research interests include the spectroscopy of pulsating stars and higher education in physics and astrophysics.

Chris Stewart produces the Syzygy podcast, and is a York-based freelance science communicator, trainer, performer, audio and video producer.
