Yorkshire Bach Choir: Brahms Requiem
Event details
Brahms Requiem
with Brahms Liebeslieder-Walzer (piano duet version)
Ben Horden, Nicky Losseff - piano
Peter Seymour - conductor
Inspired by the death of his mother, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem, Op.45) is one of the great choral masterpieces. Its tender and consoling music traces a journey of grief which is far from other grand concert or Latin requiem settings and was described by Brahms as ‘a human requiem’. Yorkshire Bach Choir presents Brahms’ own arrangement for piano duet in a version which allows a greater intimacy and precision in place of the fuller orchestral setting.
Alongside the Requiem, the Choir performs Brahms’ Liebeslieder-Walzer (Love-song waltzes, Op.52) which explore themes of love and sorrow in a kaleidoscopic cycle of dance and melodic charm.
