During the 19th century, a new form of literary tourism arose. Led by the likes of writer and artist William Morris, it saw readers of the newly-translated medieval sagas sail to Iceland to see the sites where their favourite Viking heroes had lived, fought and died.

Spanning from the mid-19th century to the brink of the Second World War, postgraduate researcher Hannah Armstrong of the University of York will tell the stories of the saga pilgrims and their voyages to the ‘land of fire and ice’.
