A Story in Stone: World Heritage and York City Walls John Oxley
Event details
Since the establishment of the Roman legionary fortress in 71CE, the stories of defence, power, status and ambition have been expressed through the successive expansion and development of the defences of the city of York.
Archaeologist John Oxley leads a guided walk exploring how these narratives evidence and support York's case for World Heritage status. Come along and discover York’s story in stone.
Please note: The route has been designed to avoid steps. It begins outside York Explore Library and ends at Clifford’s Tower.
This event is presented by the York World Heritage Steering Group. Find out more about York's bid for World Heritage status.
