Can We Find a Shared Way Forward on Housing?
Event details
Attempts to solve the housing crisis often get stuck: in arguments about what to do; in planning applications opposed; and so on. Join us for an innovative workshop illustrating a way round: by starting not with what we should do, but with what our underlying aims should be. Here, agreement is much easier to find.
Our setting will be a village that is struggling to stay viable. The pub has closed, the bus service has got worse, and the primary school is under threat. Does the community want more housing or not?
Organised by Talk Shop, each participant at this interactive event will take on a role. You might be a parent, wanting more children around to keep the school viable. You might be a parish councillor, an older man, who is personally concerned about keeping the GP surgery going, and who worries that more kids at the primary school could mean more traffic, leading to congestion and safety risks. And so on. You’ll be given material about your role and the issue – no prior knowledge is needed. Small teams, each containing a variety of these characters, compete to come up with aims that command the greatest agreement.
Come along and see if we can find a shared way forward
This event will take place live on Zoom. You will receive a link to join a couple of days before the event and a reminder an hour before.
