7 July to 30 November, Upper Hall of the Old Palace, York Minster
York Minster’s Centre for Historic Collections celebrates the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible with a new exhibition. Join us to unveil how this new Bible encouraged people to explore their own thoughts, and understand why the authorities used propaganda to convey their message. View rare objects including a chained Bible, Elizabeth I’s signature, and original coins minted in the Minster 400 years ago. Learn how the Bible has become the most printed book in the history of the world and discover how the King James still influences our language today. This exhibition is curated by Old Palace staff with assistance from the Centre for Renaissance and Early Modern Studies at the University.
