Thanatoscope: a film/art installation by Mischa Twitchin

1 to 3 July, 10am to 4pm, Demonstration Space, The Ron Cooke Hub, University of York

Thanatoscope is a fifteen-minute film (played on a continuous loop) created by the theatre artist, Mischa Twitchin. The film explores how we see death and what death makes visible. It draws on the idea of the death mask, which appears to be an impression taken of and from the face of the deceased, and incorporates images of objects including Beethoven’s death mask.

About the artist:
Mischa Twitchin teaches at the Drama Department of Goldsmiths College and at Central School of Speech and Drama. Besides his academic research, he is a founder-member of the London-based performance collective Shunt and a freelance lighting designer. He also makes his own performance projects, material from which can be accessed at: www.shunt.co.uk/mischa_twitchin/
