Culture Ireland Success

Posted on 3 June 2011

The quality of an international conference and festival on the Nobel Prize-winning author Samuel Beckett, which takes place at the University from 16 to 26 June, has been recognised by an award from a major Irish arts organisation.

Samuel Beckett: Out of the Archive won one of Culture Ireland’s prestigious and heavily contested quarterly grants based on an outstanding programme featuring a number of high-profile artists from the island of Ireland: a reading by Booker Prize-winning author John Banville; performances of two Beckett works by Gare St Lazare Players; a concert including a world premiere by Northern Irish composer Damien Harron; and a major exhibition by photographer John Minihan.

Culture Ireland creates and supports opportunities for Irish artists and companies to present and promote their work at strategic international festivals, venues, showcases, and markets. The University of York and the Festival of Ideas are proud to play a part in promoting Irish arts worldwide.
