Council for British Archaeology Open Day
Event details
The Council for British Archaeology (CBA) celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2024. You’re warmly welcomed to their offices to find out more about archaeology and the work they do across the UK.
Their core work is focused on promoting archaeology and helping people participate. Learn more about their five key areas of activity which support their membership, deliver their events and projects, underpin their statutory role as a National Amenity Society, support their publications and deliver their youth engagement programmes.
Drop into the office during the afternoon for the chance to talk to CBA staff about the range of work they do and have a go at some hands-on activities.
The CBA also wants to hear from you and will have some activities and discussion points ready to help you share what archaeology means to you. This is your chance to let them know what you’d like to see from the CBA in the future.
As it's their anniversary year, there will be (of course) some celebratory cake and refreshments, as well as goodie bags to take away.
Everyone is welcome - you don't need to have any previous knowledge or experience with archaeology, just an interest in finding out more.
The CBA office is located in De Grey House which is between the De Grey Rooms and York Theatre Royal. The CBA office is on the ground floor of the building but there are steps up to the entrance. The event is wheelchair accessible, but if possible please let CBA know you will be coming in advance so they can make sure they’re ready to welcome you. You can email events@archaeologyuk.org.

The Council for British Archaeology
The Council for British Archaeology (CBA) is an educational charity working throughout the UK to help people of all backgrounds experience and participate in archaeology. It aims to champion archaeology in all its forms, bringing together community groups, commercial units, academics and heritage organisations to create and share opportunities to discover, take part and be inspired by archaeology. This year the CBA is celebrating its 80th anniversary and will be delivering events and activities throughout the year.
