Event details

A traffic roundabout in a housing estate is not everyone's first destination for an interesting and fun visit; but in Holgate, York, there is a unique site. A roundabout on Windmill Rise is home to Yorkshire's only working windmill, built in 1770. Around Holgate Windmill, during the summer months, is a wildflower meadow. Although small, it is inhabited by a large range of insects. These have been photographed and recorded by Anna Cook, a mill volunteer and a member of the UK Hoverfly Recording Scheme.

No booking required - please pay at the door. Entrance to the exhibition is included in the standard mill entrance charge (£5 for adults, free for children under 16 years, free for Holgate Windmill Preservation Society members).

Please park on Acomb Road and walk up the snicket to the mill as Windmill Rise is a narrow residential street. The sat nav postcode for parking is YO24 4AE.
