The changing face of a City: 1610 to the present day

Fairfax House

A new exhibition of paintings, watercolours and prints displayed in the superb setting of Fairfax House, York's finest eighteenth-century townhouse. With over 100 Works of Art on show by the likes of Turner, Girtin,Varley and Francis Place, the display reveals how the city has re-invented itself time and time again over the last 400 years. The catalogue, with over 250 colour images, also features modern artists like David Hockney whose View from Garrowby Hill, 1998, shows the city of York in the wider context of the surrounding area.

Admission: £6 adults, £5 for concessions

Opening hours: 10am to 4pmTuesday to Saturday, 12.30 to 3.30pm Sunday
