Not content with being the architect of Castle Howard and Blenheim Palace, John Vanbrugh was also one of the most comically inventive playwrights of the late seventeenth century.

Michael Cordner of the University of York sets the scene for his production of the Provoked Wife by exploring Vanbrugh’s comedies of the 1690s illustrated by actors from the cast.

Speaker biography

Professor Michael Cordner is Head of Theatre at the University of York, and is a leading expert on Restoration Comedy. His recent productions include The Dutch Courtesan, A Mad World, My Masters, and Hyde Park.
