Join Bridget Morris for an evening talk in which she reflects on what the project has revealed about York’s collective memory and what it is that makes the Rowntree heritage so unique.
The Rowntree Society will be showcasing its ‘York Remembers Rowntree’ Oral History project with all-day demonstrations of its new interactive web map. This project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has uncovered hundreds of stories about what Rowntree means to people in York. Come and hear the recorded voices of those who helped build the Rowntree brand, telling about factory life in the 1930s and through the second world war, the experiences of the apprentices and office girls, changes in transportation and the move towards mechanisation.
