Jennifer Johnston is an Irish novelist, winner of the Whitbread Book Award for The Old Jest in 1979, and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1977. The Old Jest, a novel about the Irish War of Independence was later made into a film called The Dawning, starring Anthony Hopkins.
Making a rare public appearance at the York Festival of Ideas, Jennifer will give a reading from her new book, Shadowstory, and reflect on her long career as a Whitbread winning and Booker-nominated author.
