John Lanchester is among the UK’s most exciting financial and social commentators. His sensational new novel Capital, published in March 2012, is expected to become one of the most sought-after books of the year. Capital is a post-crash state-of-the-nation novel that will appeal to the widest audience and is regarded by his publisher Faber & Faber as ‘the major book’ of 2012. John comes to the York Festival of Ideas fresh from a US book tour.

John Lanchester was born in Hamburg in 1962. He has worked as a football reporter, obituary writer, book editor, restaurant critic, and deputy editor of the London Review of Books, where he is a contributing editor. He is a regular contributor to the New Yorker.

Will Gompertz, the first and current BBC’s arts editor was previously director of Tate Media, and appeared in a show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009 called Double Art History.Gompertz also writes extensively for The Guardian and The Times newspapers.
