Scheherazade is condemned to die, but she begins to tell stories to her husband the Sultan. Many of her stories are ransom tales, and also save lives by revealing injustice, cruelty, tyranny, and ignorance. Marina Warner will explore some of the magical powers ascribed to literature in the Arabian Nights
