Event details

This performance will mark the return of York Musical Society (YMS) to York Minster, a fitting setting for three magnificent pieces.

Mozart’s Requiem is one of the most extraordinary and moving masterpieces of classical music. It appears regularly in YMS’s repertoire, always drawing out the best in singers and affecting audiences with its contrasting drama and wonderful simplicity.

The Clarinet Concerto, Mozart’s last completed orchestral work, calls on the soloist’s musicality and beauty of tone as well as requiring great displays of virtuosity.

The third work in this concert, Insanae et vanae curae, is one of Haydn’s most popular pieces for choir and amongst his most colourful writing. Two contrasting sections depict two states of mind, starting with ‘raging cares’ and ending on a tranquil note: ‘If God is for you, all things are favourable for you.’

Children 12 and under go free with a paying adult.
