Event details

Founded in 2022, the York St John Living Lab is a vibrant network of staff, students and community partners working together to explore ecological justice.

Following our work on food systems and air quality, the Living Lab has spent the past two years exploring Climate Resilience. By bringing together a vibrant mix of artists, scientists and linguists, we highlight urgent environmental injustices while imagining hopeful, creative solutions for the future.

This event features an engaging panel format, pairing students, staff and partner‑organisation representatives to lead a series of insightful discussions. Themes include community spaces, democratic decision making, storytelling and pioneering partnerships.

You’ll also be invited to take part in creative activities as we reflect on the panel conversations, pose questions and look toward the future. It is open to all, and the powerful mix of panellists and project contributors underscores our ambition to create an experience that is hopeful and holistic.

Join us to explore our panel rockpools:

Spaces for making things happen: How the collaborative re-making of physical hubs and meeting places shapes actions.

Demonstrating democratic decision-making: Investigating the use of People’s Assemblies and creative funding models to empower collective action.

Sharing stories: Elevating diverse voices and perspectives from global communities.

Powerful partnerships: Building bridges between community organisations and student-led research initiatives.

The Living Lab is funded by the Institute for Social Justice.
