Event details
Set against the historic heart of the city, York Army Museum brings the story of the Second World War vividly to life. Enjoy a striking display of East Yorkshire Regiment kit, equipment and uniforms from the period, alongside military vehicles that would have been familiar to soldiers preparing for and fighting in the Normandy campaign.
The East Yorkshire Regiment Living History Group will be on hand throughout the day, offering live demonstrations of Second World War equipment and engaging visitors in conversation about the lived experiences of the regiment’s soldiers. From training and embarkation to the landings on D-Day and the hard-fought campaign that followed, visitors will gain a deeper understanding of the regiment’s crucial contribution to the Allied victory in Europe.
Designed to be both informative and accessible, this event invites people of all ages to connect with the history of D-Day - not only as a pivotal military operation, but as a human story of courage, sacrifice and resilience.
Drop by and meet historians and living history interpreters, see authentic equipment up close, and hear the stories of the men who served.
