Dissent in York: Architecture and community Achilles Dunster
Event details
York has a long history of religious non-conformists, many of whom held active roles in the community and took an interest in politics, philanthropy and intellectual debate.
Join Achilles Dunster of York St John University for a York Unlocked walking tour. Explore the effects that protestant non-conformists in York had on the cityscape and how the architecture and streetscape around them helped to shape their lives, communities and worldviews.
The tour will provide particular attention to architecture within dissenting neighbourhoods and the demographics of the surrounding areas, as well as the changing functions of buildings linked to dissenters.
Please note: The tour will begin outside Castlegate House, opposite Fairfax House on Castlegate.
Accessibility: While the tour is suitable for wheelchair users, attendees should be aware of curbs, slips and trips and be prepared for wet weather.
Please book by email: education@york-unlocked.org.uk
