Established over six decades, the University of York’s impressive art collection contains a wide range of works, including pieces by renowned masters.
Following last year’s popular event, curator Helena Cox returns to reveal more of the University’s artistic treasures. Come along and join Helena for a guided walk and learn the stories behind these exciting works of art.
Please note this session involves one hour of walking and standing.
About the speaker
Dr Helena Cox is a curator and art historian based in York. She has Czech roots and spent bits of her life in Japan and Sweden, popping over to the US every now and then. In January 2022, Helena was appointed the inaugural Art Curator at the University of York, where she oversees a collection of a wide range of works. Helena previously worked as a Curator at Beverley Art Gallery in East Yorkshire, where she was responsible for a collection of late Victorian and Modern British painting, and curated exhibitions with local, national and international contemporary artists. Before settling in the UK, Helena worked as a Curator at the Japanese and Korean Collection at the National Museum in Prague, Czech Republic.
Helena has co-authored three books and published a number of articles on Japanese, British and Czech art. She completed a PhD in Art History at the University of York, researching the Czech response to British art around 1900. In her curatorial role, Helena is dedicated to making art at the University of York accessible for everyone to enjoy.
