Event details

Capriccio Five is a York-based vocal ensemble formed by five singers who met while studying solo voice and ensemble singing at the University of York. Although they came together in York, the members originate from across the UK and Ireland, bringing a wide range of musical experiences and perspectives. What unites them is a shared passion for high-level consort singing and a commitment to music-making.

As an ensemble, Capriccio Five are drawn to music that thrives in an intimate setting, where each vocal line plays an essential role within the whole piece. Their performances aim to respect historical performance practices while remaining vivid, communicative and engaging for contemporary audiences.

Central to the group’s work is a strong interest in the relationship between music and text. Through careful attention to diction, phrasing and rhetorical expression, Capriccio Five seeks to bring the meaning and emotional depth of each piece to the forefront. Their approach allows audiences to connect with early music not only as a historical art form, but as something immediate, expressive and deeply human.

Alongside their commitment to musical excellence, Capriccio Five places great value on communication and connection with audiences. They believe that early music is most powerful when it is shared with openness and enthusiasm. This concert Masters of The Renaissance offers the opportunity to experience beloved early music pieces from this perspective.
