Event details

Discover York’s rich printing heritage on a guided walking tour led by Thin Ice Press: the York Centre for Print.

Drawing on the Centre’s research, this immersive walk uncovers hidden corners, historic streets, and overlooked stories that reveal how traditional printing shaped - and continues to shape - the city’s culture and creativity. From early presses and enterprising printers to frost fairs and the once-tallest house in York, you’ll explore the human stories behind York’s vibrant past.

Along the way, you’ll gain insight into the craft, skill and ingenuity that sustained the trade for centuries. The tour begins and concludes with a visit to the Thin Ice Press: the York Centre for Print, where you’ll discover contemporary printmaking and how this historic craft is being preserved and reimagined for the future.
