Stuff and Nonsense Julie-Ann Vickers and Fool(ish) improv
Event details
Enjoy improv comedy with a historical twist.
Yorkshire-based improvisers Fool(ish) create an evening of spontaneous comedy inspired by curious documents and artefacts from the city archive. Join us as one knowledgeable historian and six fools present laughter from York’s past.
Forget dry and dusty versions of history because the truth is often way funnier than fiction.

About the speakers and artists
Dr Julie-Ann Vickers is Head of Archives at Explore York Libraries and Archives. She has worked in local authority archives throughout Yorkshire as well as archives in Oxford, Suffolk and Leicester. She has a background in medieval history, but her recent work has focused on the 19th and 20th-century records of York.
Fool(ish) are Yorkshire based improvisers trained by some of Chicago’s best teachers and performers. For this performance, they are bringing a flavour of American long-form comedy with a uniquely York twist. They do pop up gigs in both likely and unlikely places. Recent live gigs have included ‘O Come All ye Foolish’ at Friargate Theatre, ‘Colin’ on the York Theatre Royal Patio stage and ‘Off The Shelf’ where they made a very loud show in a library inspired by a single book chosen at random by our audience.
