Listen to an exciting tale via a Kamishibai - a centuries-old traditional Japanese form of storytelling with picture cards - before taking part in a treasure hunt and making origami figures you will be able to take home.
Join Géraldine Enjelvin, Yumi Nixon and Ulrike Wray of the University of York for this fun, interactive event.
Suitable for children aged 5 to 11 who must be accompanied by one adult. Please book a ticket for accompanying adults when booking.

About the speakers
Prior to joining the University of York, Géraldine Enjelvin trained future primary school foreign language teachers and taught French to University undergraduates. Currently, she is a Senior Lecturer in French and has a keen interest in story-telling - she has run workshops on the latter.
Since the mid-1990s, Ulrike Wray has been teaching in industry and at the University of York. She is an Associate Lecturer in German who uses kamishibai to foster intercultural literacy, improve listening skills and empower participants to speak creatively. She delivers kamishibai sessions in primary schools and after school clubs.
Prior to moving to the UK, Yumi Nixon worked in Japan as an English teacher and in industry. Currently she is a Lecturer in Japanese and has a particular interest in intercultural communication and storytelling within language teaching and community contexts such as schools.
