Event details

The city of York has a fascinating energy history, and as more modern energy technologies are introduced, York is finding ways to blend past, present and future in our built environment to make a clean, sustainable space.

Join York Community Energy (YCE) on a guided walk around some of the key sites in York’s energy story, from the early days of electricity generation through to current clean energy innovations, and finally, the future of York’s energy system.

The walking tour will finish at York Explore Central Library, where refreshments will be provided and there will be a chance to reflect on what the future of York’s energy system could look like. In a short workshop session, YCE will ask you to think about your priorities for the city’s energy future - what are the places and spaces in our city that are most important to you and what do you think their energy future should look like?

The walking tour will begin at Foss Islands Chimney and finish at York Explore Library and will last approximately 30-40 minutes. The total distance will be around one mile.

This event is presented by York Community Energy.
