York’s Rivers: Place, space and people Alistair Boxall and Charlotte Sawyer
Event details
Join us for a special screening of the documentary film Rave on for the Avon, a powerful exploration of people’s deep connections to rivers, followed by a panel discussion.
Rave on for the Avon is a joyful, thoughtful film about people’s relationships with rivers - as places for swimming, celebration, protest and care. It explores why rivers matter to people and what is at stake when their health declines.
Following the screening, the filmmaker Charlotte Sawyer will be joined by a panel including environmental scientist Alistair Boxall, writers and river advocates. Together they will reflect on rivers as shared public spaces, how we understand environmental risk, and how science, culture and community action can come together around river protection.
The event marks the public launch of Ouse It or Lose It, a new, York-based community initiative focused on the River Ouse.
Doors open from 6.30pm.
