Event details

York's city walls are often understood as medieval defences, surviving as part of the modern city after Victorian repairs. The truth is far more complicated - and much more interesting.

Archaeologist Barry Crump of the University of York reveals how the city’s walls had a wide range of uses linked with everyday life, from trade and taxes to industry and animals. Join Barry to learn about the walls’ rich history and discover how each part has its own story to tell.
