Built in 1961 in response to the Soviet threat, York Cold War Bunker could have protected 60 people from the chaos of nuclear attack. Experience the grimly ordered bunker’s filtered air, ‘hot bedding’ and sewage ejectors and ask, ‘Would it work?’
Guided tours, enhanced by a striking 10-minute film (PG rated) and interpretation, tells the story of the Cold War’s ‘Mutually Assured Destruction’. Tours last approximately 1 hour. No need to book.
Wheelchair accessible using ramps and wheelchair lift. Please be aware that the corridors are narrow.
