Event details

Things happen here. Things you can only dream of.

Out of Character Theatre Company presents a dizzying new show, In/Significant. Ray lives a safe life in a still world but when he discovers a young woman lying dead on a bench everything in his life is about to spin.

In/Significant is part of the In/Hospitable series of science-fiction plays which explore the tensions and challenges of living with mental illness. Based on a series of workshops and interviews with clinicians, carers and those with lived experience, this disorienting drama will take you into new worlds where facts can make inspiring fiction.

About the performers

Out of Character is a theatre company comprising people who use mental health services, theatre students and professionals. It makes challenging work for inquisitive audiences with the aim of transcending the boundaries of modern theatre and public perceptions of mental health, claiming the territory between inspiration and medication.

The Company performs regularly in York. Previous work includes collaboration with York Theatre Royal (Tales from Kafka, Henry IV, More Tales From Kafka, Objects of Terror) and performances and workshops at conferences and medical and nursing schools.
