What could a truly cycle-friendly city look like?

Join us to hear all about ‘42 Ways’, York Cycle Campaign’s manifesto that critiques the existing transport policy in York and presents a more rational alternative that puts cycling at the heart of a new approach.

Find out how cycling in York can be made safe, convenient and accessible, creating a healthier, happier, more equitable environment not just for cyclists, but for everyone in York - residents, businesses and visitors alike.

About the speakers

Andy Shrimpton has been in the cycle trade for 30 years and is Managing Director of Cycle Heaven Ltd. A trip to Copenhagen in the 1980s was his Damascene moment and set him on a cycle journey from which he has never returned. Not prone to flights fancy, Andy simply believes the bike to be the liberator from the ills of modernity, saviour of the city and a tool for conviviality. Find out why - and why the number 42.

Robyn Jankel moved to York from London in 2017. Shortly afterwards, she joined York Cycle Campaign as the first woman on the committee, pushing for representation of marginalised groups. She is now the chair of the campaign. Last year she cycled the Danube on her trusty flower-covered Dutch bike, in dresses and sparkly trainers, to prove that cycling really is for everybody. A few months later, she was named one of Cycling UK’s 100 Women in Cycling for 2022. She genuinely believes that cycling is something of a panacea and has the potential to change the world - but for now, she’s starting with York.
