Results from fieldwork at the construction site of Crossrail's new Liverpool Street station provide an intriguing picture of a unique landscape beyond the walls of Roman Londinium. Dominated by a former tributary of the Walbrook, the evidence highlights Roman burial and road building, followed by medieval marsh formation and the establishment of the fascinating St Mary Bethlehem (Bedlam) burial ground in the 16th century.
Join archaeologist Alison Telfer of the Museum of London Archaeology as she discusses some of the exciting finds. These include a rare Roman medallion, Roman skulls and hipposandals, medieval bone ice-skates and 16th-century cloth seals, pilgrim badges and tenterhooks.
